Baleia Blu Ceramics

Handmade by Adette Contreras in Brooklyn, NY. Inspired by a big blue whale and our little blue planet.

More Logos, More Inspiration

Sketching some more ideas for the logo, since I want the mark to really play with the concepts:

  • The blue whale
  • Water
  • The waves pattern
  • Ceramic pieces, e.g., bowls, vases, plates, cups, etc.
  • A circle and the wheel
  • Our blue planet, the world
  • This game of something so large being encased in something so small.

When you think about it, clay and pottery have been an indicators of civilization since, well, the dawn of civilizations. There's something so human and primal about it, that it's been fun playing with it and turning it into an aesthetic project. Creating a brand for something that's been around forever and reimagining it in today's world... and seeing what I can do with it. Not just from the sense of making a bowl, but who can I help by making this bowl.

Also starting to think about how I'll want to photograph the pieces for the site. A little texture is always good, but want to keep it bright, white, and light. Maybe I'm seeking all this air because it never feels like there's enough space in The City. Seamless white is nice too, but a little to stark for me, so I'm veering more towards touches of texture. Keeping the colors of the pieces fairly similar for this first session: focusing on Baleine Bleue's essence and going with white and ocean blue for the glazes.

Inspired by pretty words and pretty pictures. Reminding myself to play and continue to experiment.
