Textures & Meditation
We're right in the middle of the holiday party mayhem for TINSEL, so I feel like I need the clay now more than ever. It's like exercise, in a way. When you need it the most is when you don't have time for it.
My favorite times to go now are before and after hours, when I've got the entire studio to myself. So peaceful. So meditative. Was playing around with carving some textures (and also with my half pinch-pot bowl), so I'm curious to see how these turn out after the bisque fire.
Also starting to wonder if the speckled clay is what I prefer... it's the brown clay here in the studio, and I switched from it right in the beginning of throwing because it's so gritty, and I like how the glazes look on the lighter clay body. But the white clay body yellows when fired twice, and it's not the most flattering look, I feel. The brown clay body's speckles are pretty charming, actually, and I like the color of this clay naked, much more than the white. Wonder if I'll switch back this year. Look at how pleasant this piece is, from another potter in the studio. The glazes here look great, and I love that naked clay color.
